Confident Solo-preneurs Embrace Fear
FEAR shows up in many ways… and can either motivate and propel us forward or stop us dead in our tracks.
We have clever acronyms like “False Evidence Appearing Real” to help us understand and overcome the many fears that may creep into our thoughts during the day.
And, while these words may help us grasp that fear is an illusion, how does knowing these words help us to deal with the fear that appears to be very real to us?
Fear Begins as a Thought
It’s important to remember that “fear” begins as a thought. Fear is a projection of a worst-case scenario that you think might happen in a future situation.
The more you think the thought, the more you believe the thought you are thinking is likely to happen, aka “self-fulfilling prophecy.”
As this scenario illustrates, the driving force behind a self-fulfilling prophecy is the power of one’s own thoughts. As we think the thought it becomes so real to us that we make it happen as part of the story we experience. Where our focus goes, our story unfolds.
The good news is that if your mind can dwell on a worst-case scenario to create “fear,” your mind also has the ability to dwell on a best-case scenario to create what you would actually like to experience.
Confident Solo-prenuers Navigate Fear
Are you ready to ditch these common fears and confidently run your business as the boss you are?
1. Fear of Facing Your Fears
Confident solo-preneurs know that fears are a message to re-evaluate their inner narrative and refocus their perspective. Instead of fearing fear, they welcome it as a way to re-adjust their inner alignment.
2. Fear of Not Being Good Enough
It’s a fact, you don’t know everything there is to know. Confident solo-preneurs embrace what they do know and how they can best help their clients. They build a network of mentors to support their continued growth and learning. They collaborate with other experts to provide additional services to their clients. They know that they are always good enough to help someone who hasn’t yet learned what they have to share.
3. Fear of Being Wrong
Societal programming reinforces the belief that there is a right and a wrong way of doing things and to be successful you must follow the rules. But you are the boss now, so you get to decide what is right for you and your business. Confident solo-preneurs allow themselves to make mistakes. They know it is just part of the process to finding alignment in their business and choosing what works for them.
4. Fear of Being Criticized
There is always going to be someone that will criticize what you are saying and doing. Confident solo-preneurs align with integrity in their words and actions. They listen with discernment for the truth. They welcome constructive criticism to make improvements that benefit their clients and help them to grow personally and professionally.
5. Fear of Embarrassment
Everyone has those embarrassing moments they’d rather not think about, let alone share publicly. Confident solo-preneurs know that they are human and being perfect is an unrealistic goal. They know that when they are vulnerable their audience will relate to them more authentically. They allow others to see both their struggles and triumphs without judging themselves in the process.
6. Fear of Disappointment
When you follow your dream of being an entrepreneur, you may feel others are disappointed in you leaving a familiar career or a traditional way of making income. Confident solo-preneurs know that if they don’t follow their soul-calling they will only end up disappointing themselves. They find the courage to believe in their vision and the strength to walk their path. They align with communities that encourage them and let go of relationships that are no longer aligned with their new mission.
7. Fear of Technology
We live in a world governed by technological advances that seem to be on warp speed. It’s easy to let technology slow us down if we are unfamiliar with how it works. Confident solo-preneurs access the situation – they determine the desired outcome and then find aligned vendors or mentors to help them achieve those results. They know they don’t have to have all the answers; they just need to connect with the people who have the knowledge they require.
8. Fear of Marketing and Selling
Most likely you started your business because you had an idea you believed in and wanted to share it with everyone and anyone who would listen. Confident solo-preneurs know that when they focus on “sharing,” marketing and selling happen organically. They understand that the key to success is building relationships. They focus on authentically letting others know how what they offer can make a difference in their lives.
9. Fear of Failure and/or Success
A person who is afraid to fail or afraid to succeed will stay stuck in the realm of status quo. Confident solo-preneurs realize that they can be afraid of whatever they choose and that they can make failure or success their enemy or their foe. They stay balanced in the knowing that they have the power to shift their focus from “fear of being in business” to “love of being in business.” They know that failure and success are a natural part of both. The difference is how much power and control they give to the importance of being a success or a failure.
10. Fear of Being Rejected
It’s easy to judge yourself when someone unsubscribes to your email or the discovery session didn’t result in a new client. Confident solo-preneurs CELEBRATE these small wins because they just avoided a misaligned experience with a “not so ideal” client. They know that when they are energetically aligned with their business vision, they will attract those clients that are the reason they started their business in the first place.
Confident Solo-preneurs Focus on Desired Outcomes
Fear is always lurking in the cobwebs of the mind waiting to latch onto a thought and make itself real. Confident solo-prenuers know how to artfully manage their thoughts to produce the outcomes they desire, shutting down “fear” before it shuts them down.
